Pangkor Island (2 hrs visit) on 30th April 2011

Yesterday.. ok.. two days ago as I'm blogging at 12am now.. on a spontaneous trip, I went to Pangkor Island with two friends. It all started out with my best friend calling me on Friday and said "Hey dude, my parents will be away for cruise, I will be looking for you" She has invited me to go for a walk in Gasing Hill, however I was still having a bad cough and short of breath, I decided not to go for the walk. She of course went ahead with her friend.

She came over around 10am and I wasn't expecting her to be so early. She came and I was still asleep. We have discussed the night previously that we would like to make a trip to Malacca or maybe just hang around in shopping malls. As she lay on my bed, I suggested to give a call to our old friend Karena, whom we have not met for a long time. Out of my expectation she was free on that day and we said we shall make a trip to Malacca. She was spontaneous with it and agreed to it. I quickly took a shower and we went to Subang Jaya to pick her up. During breakfast, we decided to cancel Malacca trip as Karena found out it was jam on the highway there. We were debating where to go, Cameron, Genting, Gold Coast Sepang, Penang, Ipoh and Seremban. All of a sudden, Pangkor came into Karena's mind. We looked at our watch and decided that's the place we would head to. People in the coffee shop who were sitted around us were definately eaves dropping and as we stood up and excitedly left the table, the people were looking at us. (Can you imagine the horror or shockness in their eyes.) hahaha...

12pm sharp on 30th April, 3 fools decided to go to Pangkor Island. We went to the petrol station, filled the tank full and headed out on our journey. We drove on the hot sunny highway and went through a few spots which were jammed. At some point Karena would want to give up on this trip but Nikki insist. I would sit by the side and not take sides. We went through a long kampung road. Guess what.. We took 4 hrs on the road with no maps and only based on our Geography knowledge. We reached Marina Club finally. One joke in the car cranked up was "4 hrs drive we can reach Penang already". HAhahaha. Quote Karena.

On the way in the Kampung, we saw Padi Field which is so relaxing to the eyes of the beholder.
At 4.30pm we parked our car and walked into the office to get our tickets to Pangkor Island. This is a new port where we only have to take a 10mins or less to Pangkor Island. This ferry is air conditioned and very stable (trust me I did not get seasick).

The system is good where you have to scan your ticket to enter the Jetty to the ferry.
The ferry we took to reach our destination, Pangkor Island.
The water is clear beneath the ferry where we can see little fishes swimming around. No, it is not tadpoles.

Over the other side, Pangkor Jetty, our destination.

When we reached at the Pangkor jetty, we were approached by many people offering motorbike rent and car rent. It was a little irritating but we finally gave in. At first we wanted to take those pink van taxi which would cost us RM 100 however we have to get back to the port by 7.30pm for the last ferry. We decided to rent a car as none of us have motor license. We rented a car for two hours which cost us only RM50. We headed straight to a place which is famous for selling seafood items. Going to Pangkor Island is must to buy seafood items such as anchovies (which they have a huge variety to choose from), satay fish, preserved seafood and etc. After that we went to pump RM3 petrol and headed to the beach where we snap some pics. We then went to have seafood dinner which is surprisingly cheap, lets say affordable. The food is delicious and we could hardly move after finishing all the dishes. On the bad side, service is rather slow as the place was packed when we left. Its already 7.15pm and we have to rush back to the port.
The rented car and Nikki driving it. It used to be a taxi.

We practically ran for our lives through the port to get to the ferry. As we took our seats, 2 mins later the ferry left the port. Phew.. We gota drive a freaking 4 hrs back out. Trust me there is no faster way to get out from there. The road back out was dark through the kampung where there are no streetlights and it was awfully dangerous as we were speeding at 110km/hr all the way. The highway is no better as there are no light and all cars were speeding. To make things worst, the rain started to pour and the wipers of Nikki's car is not working. Yes, God bless me. Anyway.. I managed to reach home in one piece by 12pm.

To end off, I loved what we did on that day, although its dangerous and tiring, it was fun and adventurous. Call me crazy, but I like it. I'm looking forward to the next expedition. Till then, so long my friend.

Expenses: Whole journey petrol RM 80 (manual car), Tolls both ways (RM17.60 + RM16.60), Ferry (RM10) for both ways, Seafood purchases (RM52) 8 items, Car rental (RM50), Seafood Dinner (RM62) for 5 medium dishes.
